Helping Interns Engage-2013
This year FYTF was proud to assist ten Fairfax foster youth who were awarded internships at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The internships lasted seven weeks and FYTF was able to provide each intern with metro fare to and from work and a budget of $10 per day for lunch so they were able to go out to lunch with their peers and fellow workers and develop the interpersonal skills that will serve them well later in life. With assistance from Noodles & Co., Potbelly Sandwiches, Chipotle, Chik-Fil-A, and Which Wich of Arlington, VA, FYTF was able to give the interns a summer of lunches!
For its efforts FYTF received a Partner Award from Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services. The Partner Award recognizes outstanding individuals and organizations that assist NCS in fulfilling its mission of bringing people and resources together to strengthen the well-being of individuals and communities; and go above and beyond expectations for a traditional colleague, partner or contractor.
FYTF also provided one aspiring student with a laptop computer to assist them in finishing high school.
